The Dreamiest Hotel In New Orleans

By , December 9th, 2014

If a hotel could be a love-letter to New Orleans, then the Bourbon Orleans is that hotel. Centrally located between Royal Street and Bourbon Street, and housed in a building built just shortly after the city joined the United States, this 4-star luxury hotel encompasses everything you imagine when you think of the French Quarter.

General Manager Mark Wilson and Director of Sales and Marketing Laurie Guidry generously gave us some of their time to talk about the hotel, its history, and what makes it such a special place.

When asked to describe the ambiance of the Bourbon Orleans, Mark Wilson said, “Authentically French Quarter.” From the historical architecture, expertly restored to modern luxury standards within the last decade (complete with wrought iron balconies, gas lanterns, and an interior courtyard pool), to the genuine southern hospitality of the staff and the enthusiasm of the guests, the quintessentially New Orleans vibe is undeniable.

According to legend, Andrew Jackson announced his presidential candidacy in the Orleans Ballroom. Come Halloween, don’t confuse the sounds of rambunctious hotel guests using the decorative lobby pumpkins as bowling balls after a night of partying on Bourbon Street with the sounds of the legendary ghost rolling a ball and chasing it down the sixth floor corridors.

Breathtaking views

For Laurie Guidry, the most dramatic view from the hotel is when standing on the wrap around balcony of the hotel’s largest suite, the Andrew Jackson Suite, where you have a perfect view of the French Quarter. Look left toward the heavenly St. Louis Cathedral, or right toward Bourbon Street, where things can get a little hotter.

It doesn’t get better than Bourbon Street

Don’t be deterred by the hotel’s Bourbon Street location though. The Bourbon Orleans is really an oasis in a sea of celebration—and with a courtyard room with a pool view, you’ll barely be aware of any noise on the streets. There’s a family atmosphere here, one that is reflective of New Orleans as a whole, but is also uniquely Bourbon Orleans, a locally owned, historical treasure, run by people who love the hotel and the city, and who love what they do.
