The Girl’s Guide to Los Angeles

By , December 17th, 2014

Aside from all the sparkly charm of celebrities, LA is a multicultural hub of activity. The city buzzes with an excited energy while whispers on the street tell of ‘the next big thing’. Even if you’ve visited Los Angeles a million times, there is always something new to see and do. Los Angeles makes a great trip for a girl’s holiday so grab the ladies; it’s time to have some fun in the City of Angels.

Where to stay

The London Hotel West Hollywood

The London in West Hollywood was named as one of the world’s best hotels in 2014 by Travel and Leisure Magazine. The hotel is oozing with laidback glamour and sophisticated charm that perfectly combines London chic with California cool. Head to the rooftop pool for panoramic views over the city. The Brit Bar Lounge by Jaguar is waiting to serve its signature cocktails such as The Royalty made with Pimms and sparkling wine. If you go downstairs you’ll be spoilt for choice with the Gordon Ramsey restaurant, Boxwood Café and the London Bar.

Where to eat

Cafe la Boheme Los Angeles

Café La Boheme – Dine beneath the crystal chandeliers in a ruby red rock star booth. It’s the Californian/Mediterranean cuisine with an Asian flare that has helped it become a long-time favorite with locals – a difficult feat in such a fast paced city.

Burgers at Grand Central Market Los Angeles

Grand Central Market – Foodies will love a trip to Grand Central Market in Downtown LA. This iconic market has been around since 1917 selling farm-fresh produce and tasty dishes from around the world. Try Belcampo for one of the most incredible burgers you will ever have (a bold statement, I know!)

Eggslut breakfast Los Angeles

Try Eggslut for the perfect hangover cure but expect long lines – don’t worry, it’s worth every second.

Hike in the hills – You may be surprised to find that Los Angeles is a popular spot for hiking. The Mishe Mokwa trail is a great walk if you’re looking for beautiful views and perfect picnic spots. Admire the view from the Griffith Observatory – Head to the southern slopes of Mount Hollywood and visit the planetarium. You’ll find the world’s most advanced star projector.

Yoga Classes in Los Angeles, CA.

Take a yoga class – You can barely walk 10 meters in Los Angeles without stumbling across the latest style of yoga class. Join the perfectly toned ladies in an early morning class followed by wheatgrass shots and healthy vegetable smoothies. Try Peace Yoga Gallery on South Main Street for a modern class with live DJs and massage grottos.
Be pampered at the spa —  follow in Marilyn Monroe’s footsteps and try the Exhale Spa in the Fairmont Miramar Hotel. Apparently this was one of her favorites and you can’t miss their signature treatment; a 60-minute Acu-Organ Detox which combines abdominal massage and acupuncture.

Los Angeles’s main appeal is its laid-back glamour and you can see this in the way people dress. You will notice the locals are health-obsessed Californians so they’ll be showing off their trim, toned bodies and healthy tan. Make sure you pack oversized sunglasses and floppy hats. Casual, flowing skirts are worn with skimpy tops and wedge heels as high as you dare. Designer handbags are a must and should be matched with subtle, designer bling.

What area some of your ‘secret’ LA hot spots?
