#GoBeKind in Chicago

By Natalia Kvitek,

#GoBeKind! trivago is working with Leon Logothesis to spread a contagious chain reaction of kindness across America. Want to give back or pay it forward? It can be as little as buying a cup of coffee for a stranger or as big as committing to helping feed the homeless at a shelter. Visiting Chicago? Even a simple hotel stay can spark some kindness on your part. Here’s a few ideas for ways you can make your visit to Chicago filled with kindness.

How your hotel stay can help spread kindness

The Trump International Hotel & Tower Chicago might boast about its floor to ceiling windows with sweeping panoramas of Chicago and an excellent location beside the Chicago River and shopping on the Magnificent Mile, but Trump hotels value giving back as much as they value luxury by supporting several global and national philanthropic initiatives. They include helping provide nearly 84 million meals to children globally through the Lauren Bush founded FEED mission as well as supporting the United Nations Foundation Girl Up program that helps educate and inspire hard to reach adolescent girls with hopes of positioning them to be the next global leaders. Take a side of #GoBeKind with your next stay here!

Hard Rock Hotel Chicago

Like many other hard rockers, the Hard Rock Hotel in Chicago truly has a heart of gold. The hotel, housed in a historic Chicago skyscraper, might cater to all kinds of rock stars young and old, but they also offer a full-time Rock support program aimed at doing good in their ‘hood. They donate free or discounted rooms for a variety of philanthropic causes used for silent auctions, raffles as well as charity functions like the Ping Pong event for the Jackson Chance Foundation, helping enrich the lives of families with babies in neonatal care. They have also hosted bone marrow drives and events for the Imagine There’s No Hunger Campaigns in Chicago.

The luxurious Loews Chicago isn’t just another pretty hotel facade; albeit the incredible views from the massive windows makes it easy to give into a stay here during your visit to Chicago. Loews gives back with their Good Neighbor Policy. Created by the Chairman of Loews in 1990, the hotel chain has committed to social responsibility in many forms. We love their initiatives to donate extra food and used goods like linens and furniture to local food banks, shelters and hunger relief programs. Couple this with their extensive recycling program and energy saving equipment and they get a gold star for their efforts in truly making their community feel good and making it easy to #GoBeKind.

StreetWise Inc Chicago

StreetWise Chicago is an enterprise aimed at helping those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness with support and professional growth. Since it’s founding in 1992, they’ve been providing people with the means to get a stable economic and employment foundation through the sales of the StreetWise Magazine. They also provide employment training and housing support with the hopes of getting those in need on the road to financial self-sufficiency. You can help by purchasing a magazine from one of the vendors on the street or by volunteering your time to help with organization, training or event support.

Chicago Cares

Having a hard time committing to one cause? Chicago Cares helps create programming for over 200 schools, parks and not-for-profit that they in turn connect with volunteers interested in giving a couple of hours, days or whatever they’ve got. Programs include volunteering at a weekly senior citizens breakfast, sorting clothes at a women’s treatment center or helping someone study for their GED.

Red Door Animal Shelter

The Red Door Animal Shelter get it’s name from the medieval symbolism that a red door signals a safe haven. The Chicago shelter is committed to helping rescue, shelter and adopt out dogs, cats and rabbits and practice no-kill mantra meaning all animals are in a safe haven. They are always looking for volunteers to help with everything from writing grants, administrative work, photo shoots as well as the ever popular animal care including fostering, grooming and walking–cuddling also included.
