#GoBeKind! trivago is working with Leon Logothesis to spread a contagious chain reaction of kindness across America. Want to give back or pay it forward? It can be as little as buying a sandwich for a homeless person outside the coffee shop or as big as committing to serving Thanksgiving dinner at a shelter. Visiting St.Louis? In 2014, St.Louis took the top prize as the most giving city in America. Even a simple hotel stay can spark some kindness on your part. Here’s a few ideas for ways you can make your visit to St.Louis filled with kindness.
How your hotel stay can help spread kindness
The Moonrise Hotel blends modern with quirky for a unique St. Louis boutique hotel experience, but that’s not the only thing they’re doing differently. Room5g into the hotel on a Friday means you’ll witness staff donning their favorite jeans — the price they pay for the comfort comes out of their paycheck and straight to the Little Bit Foundation, giving support to inner city St. Louis schools and the Stray Rescue of St.Louis, which rescues and rehabilitates stray animals and places them in loving homes.
The Renaissance St.Louis Airport Hotel is a fundraising champion, especially for the Give Kids The World resort in Florida which gives families with children with life-threatening diseases a well-deserved vacation. The hotel created a flat bottom boat which they navigated over 120-miles down the Missouri river in 2013, helping them raise over $21,000 for this important cause. They hold fundraising breakfasts, bake sales, take payroll deductions and do car washes, all in the name of giving the kids the world. The hotel features 374 well-appointed guestrooms and is ideally located close to the aiport as well as downtown St.Louis.
The Westin St.Louis is ideally located near the Busch Stadium, the Gateway Arch and all the shopping and culture of St.Louis. As part of the Starwood hotel chain, they provide assistance on both a local, national and international scale by participating in programs helping with disaster relief and rebuilding efforts. On a more local scale, the hotel staff actively volunteers within the local community.
Want to take a more direct course of action to #GoBeKind? Check out these charities making a difference in many communities in St.Louis: whether it’s helping house families during times of crisis or providing children with something as small as school supplies, there is always more kindness that can be spread with your commitment to help.
St.Louis Crisis Nursery
The St. Louis Crisis Nursery is a safe haven for infants and children, working to shield them from neglect and child abuse and by offering support to families who need it. Children can stay at the nursery at any point in which their health and safety may be jeopardized by situations incurring anything from parental stress, homelessness or domestic violence. The nursuery is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and remains free of charge through the support of volunteers and donations.
Little Bit Foundation
The Little Bit Foundation serves over 6,000 elementary and middle school students in many inner-city schools in St.Louis by providing them with the necessities to succeed and allowing them to focus on their education. Little Bit equips kids with things like clothing, shoes, school supplies, doctor checkups and glasses that their families may not be able to afford since almost all the children they support are at the poverty level.
Room at the Inn
The Room at the Inn not only functions as an emergency shelter for homeless women and families that is willing to accommodate children of any age, but also strives to help these families overcome their situation and find long-term solutions. They help people through empowering mentorship programs that educate and inspire over 200 people per year in the St.Louis area to overcome their difficulties and become self-sufficient to the benefit of their families.
