Houston Rodeo Might Be The Most Affordable Event in Texas

By , March 7th, 2017

The 86th edition of the Houston Rodeo begins today and, make no mis-steak, hotel prices suggest it’ll be one of the more affordable events in Texas this year.

Cheaper than the Super Bowl in Houston, cheaper than the Texas State Fair, Fiesta San Antonio, and Austin’s South by Southwest festival (SXSW), this year’s Houston Rodeo bulldozes the competition with hotel prices costing a mere $145/night over the course of the festival, and, no bull, weekends offer the cheapest rates.

For comparison’s sake:

None of this is surprising, though. Unlike events of similar scale–like Mardi Gras in New Orleans–Houston hotels steer clear of the exorbitant hotel rates. While a weekend in NOLA for Mardi Gras milks $379/night, Houston hovers around a more budget (and family) friendly $123/night, according to trivago data.

Even by Houston standards, this year’s rate is much lower than usual. Last year, a night at the rodeo could cost as much as $180 for the night, and similar events of the same magnitude saw hotel prices balloon to double their typical rate–looking at you $340/night Super Bowl LI.

That said, Texans trotting down to Houston can cownt on some convenient savings.
