Bavarian Lodge

The Boyd family have helped make Leavenworth a unique destination with the construction and operation of their Bavarian Lodge. Welcoming visitors since 2005, this luxury property, which won a 4-star category honor for the trivago Awards 2017, fosters the Bavarian alpine ambiance that was imported straight from Germany. Rooms have lovely views of the nearby mountains best enjoyed with a Starbucks coffee from the privacy of your balcony. Many rooms have their own fireplaces and are decorated in a whimsical rustic chic style that puts you straight at ease and blends in beautifully with the town surroundings.

Cannery Pier Hotel

Robert Jacob had to jump through quite a few hoops when building the spectacular Cannery Pier Hotel, set 600 feet into the Columbia River upon a disused fish cannery. Despite some bureaucratic hoops coming from both the Army Corps of Engineers and the Division of State Lands, this 5-star trivago Awards 2017 winner was worth the effort. Guest are treated to views for days including straight from the clawfoot and jetted tubs towards the neighboring Washington State, the ironically named Cape Disappointment lighthouse, freighters passing by and seals frolicking in the water. Gas fireplaces set a romantic tone and a complimentary evening reception and continental breakfast in the morning shoots the list of amenities straight into the luxury range.

The Inn at Christmas Place

1/2

A year-round Christmas spirit is omnipresent in the Biggs’ family’s hearts. Following their first foray into the business of Christmas with the opening of their Christmas themed gift stores in 1983, the opportunity to bring Santa into the hotel came when they opened the Inn at Christmas Place in 2007. The hotel is built in a grandiose Bavarian style that harmonizes well with the Christmastime accents dotted throughout the property.

The Biggs family have thought of every detail from the warm cookies and milk that are available to all come bedtime to the two-story, handcrafted glockenspiel. As a trivago Awards winner in the 4-star category, that familial touch has clearly made the Inn a favorite independent accommodation destination among guests.

Stonehurst Place

1/2

Stonehurst Place owner Barb Shadomys’s background in interior and garden design bring the guest house alive with a depth of character in the details of the property. Her impeccable taste is present throughout the property from the original artworks hanging on the walls, to the eco-friendly aspects of the design and the lushly landscaped gardens.

A gourmet homemade breakfast is served every morning and snacks and beverages are on hand throughout the day. Unsurprisingly because of the attention to the most finite of details and guest comforts, Stonehurst Place topped the Alternative Accommodation category of the trivago Awards 2017.

Adobe Grand Villas

1/2

Set amid the breathtaking beauty of the Red Rocks which can be viewed from all the rooms, Adobe Grand Villas in Sedona is potentially the most unique property on this list. Each of the 16 villas come equipped with a breadmaker, which could seem a quirky choice until you are greeted by the smell of a fresh loaf, baking for your arrival. A gourmet five-course breakfast is prepared daily by the New Orleans native Chef Michael Merilli that can be taken in the privacy of your villa at no extra charge. It’s worth asking to see the other villas as each has been uniquely designed to fit a different theme– yet manage to being gaudy as they are unified in their rustic aura.

Owners Stuart and Ilene Berman and their son Steve have left their mark on every inch of the property including many of the handcrafted elements to the covered wagon bed, animal skulls decorating some fireplaces and the free snacks available all day. Guests are pampered not only by their lavish surroundings but by what could only be described as the thoughtfulness of the Innkeepers. The Adobe Grand Villas bear all the traits of a trivago Award 2017 winner in the Alternative Accommodation category.
