Best Hotels for Spring Training Baseball in Arizona’s Cactus League

By Joe Baur,

Spring training baseball is almost here and it’s never too early to start planning your trip to Arizona or Florida (or both?) around your favorite team. We know you’re heading to town strictly for the baseball and that the hotel is secondary. That said, you’ll still want someplace comfortable to rest your head and we’re already seeing limited availability in March with hotels near the stadiums so you’ll want to get booking.

With that in mind, we’ve researched some of the top-rated hotels by trivago users near each and every stadium in both the Cactus League and Grapefruit League. All you have to do is scroll on, find your team, and click on the name of the hotel to start your Spring Training trip for 2018.

Spring Training Arizona, Cactus League

Catching Cactus League Spring Training baseball is a sports fan’s dream. Here you have 15 teams spread across 10 stadiums all within the greater Phoenix region, but spread out just enough that you get to see a number of different towns and cities along the way. Plus, the desert heat sure is nice if you’re following your team south from a northern winter city. Below we have all of the Cactus League stadiums complete with their teams and hotel options near the ballpark.

Surprise Stadium

Royals Spring Training

Cactus League

The Kansas City Royals and Texas Rangers call Surprise Stadium in Surprise, Arizona home for Spring Training. Two highly-rated hotels come up on trivago within a short walk to the stadium: Residence Inn Phoenix Northwest – Surprise and Holiday Inn Express & Suites Surprise. For more options, look back east around U.S. Route 60. Surprise is right on the edge of the greater Phoenix area’s footprint, so if you head west, you’ll hit White Tank Mountain Regional Park and miles of desert.

Goodyear Ballpark

Indians Spring Training

Goodyear Ballpark

It’s all Ohio at Goodyear Ballpark in Goodyear, Arizona where the Cleveland Indians and Cincinnati Reds set up camp for Spring Training baseball. Unfortunately, there’s nothing within a comfortable walk from the ballpark, so your best bet for proximity is Comfort Suites Goodyear. Otherwise, the very affordable Best Western Plus Phoenix Goodyear and TownePlace Suites Phoenix Goodyear are just another mile away. Across I-10 on the north side, you’ve got a few more user-favorites in Holiday Inn Express I-10 West Goodyear, Hampton Inn & Suites Phoenix Goodyear, and Residence Inn Phoenix Goodyear.

Peoria Sports Complex

Mariners Spring Training

Asa Plum

The San Diego Padres don’t have too far to travel for Spring Training, playing their March ball at Peoria Sports Complex in Peoria, Arizona. They share the facility with the Seattle Mariners. Fans heading here are in luck with a handful of well-rated properties within a short walk to the stadium. You’ve got La Quinta Inn & Suites Phoenix West Peoria, Hampton Inn Phoenix Glendale Peoria, Comfort Suites Peoria Complex, and Residence Inn Phoenix Glendale/Peoria all within a half mile of the Peoria Sports Complex.

Camelback Ranch

Dodgers Spring Training

Cactus League

After a heartbreaking Game 7 loss to the Houston Astros in the 2017 World Series, the Los Angeles Dodgers will look to regroup for another run at Camelback Ranch in Glendale, Arizona, sharing the ballpark with the Chicago White Sox. For something nearby (about 2.5 miles), have a look at Comfort Suites Univ. of Phoenix Stadium Area. Several more options pop up if you search a bit further north, such as Hampton Inn & Suites Phoenix Glendale, Holiday Inn Express Phoenix-Glendale, Staybridge Suites Phoenix-Glendale, SpringHill Suites Phoenix Glendale Sports & Entertainment District, and Residence Inn Phoenix Glendale Sports & Entertainment District all with an 8.6 or higher rating on trivago.

Maryvale Baseball Park

Ironically the only Spring Training ballpark in Phoenix is one of the most isolated. Cheeseheads coming out from Wisconsin to see the Milwaukee Brewers will be spending their time in a residential corner of Phoenix at Maryvale Baseball Park. La Quinta Inn & Suites Phoenix I-10 West, Holiday Inn Phoenix West, Comfort Inn I-10 West at 51st Ave are all within three miles of the ballpark and have solid ratings from trivago users. Fair warning, there are a number of properties surrounding this corner of I-10 with less than stellar ratings. Be sure to use trivago’s guest rating filters if you want to stay at a user-favorite.

Tempe Diablo Stadium

Angels Spring Training

Cactus League

Another team that gets a stadium all to themselves is the Los Angeles Angels at Tempe Diablo Stadium in Tempe, Arizona. Likewise, there’s only one hotel within a reasonable walk to the ballpark and that’s the Phoenix Marriott Tempe at The Buttes located within sight of the stadium. Still doable on the other side of I-10 is DoubleTree by Hilton Phoenix Tempe and you could also consider the Comfort Suites Phoenix Airport.

Scottsdale Stadium

Giants Spring Training

Cactus League

Once again, there’s no sharing when it comes to Scottsdale Stadium and the San Francisco Giants, and fans coming down for Spring Training will have no problem finding a hotel nearby. Just down the street on N Drinkwater Blvd. you’ll find Courtyard Scottsdale Old Town, Comfort Suites Old Town Scottsdale, and Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Scottsdale all within a stone’s throw from Scottsdale Stadium. If you want your hotel to be closer to the ever-popular Old Town Scottsdale while still walkable to Scottsdale Stadium, have a look at Bespoke Inn, Cafe & Bicycles.

Salt River Fields at Talking Stick

Diamondbacks Spring Training

Cactus League

If there’s truly no place like home, the Arizona Diamondbacks are basically home playing their Spring Training baseball at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick in Scottsdale, Arizona. They share with the Colorado Rockies. When looking for a hotel nearby, the obvious candidate is the Talking Stick Resort. But if that’s not quite your scene, you can save a little money across the street at Hampton Inn & Suites Scottsdale Riverwalk. That’s all you’ll find in this part of town. For more options, look west around N Scottsdale Road and E Indian Bend Road.

Sloan Park

Cubs Spring Training

Cactus League

We’re in Mesa, Arizona where the Chicago Cubs have Sloan Park to themselves. (They even have a road, Cubs Way, named in their honor.) Highly-rated hotels are unfortunately a bit of rarity near the ballpark, but luckily there are two within a mile’s walk to Sloan Park and they also just-so-happen to be two of the highest rated hotels in the whole region. We’re talking about the Hyatt Place Phoenix Mesa (9.0 rating) and Sheraton Mesa at Wrigleyville West (8.7). The latter is within an outfielder’s throw of the stadium, but the name probably gave that away.

Hohokam Stadium

It’s Mesa, Arizona again, and this time to check out the Spring Training home of the Oakland Athletics — Hohokam Stadium. If for some reason you happen to be both a Cubs and Athletes fan, you’re in luck because the aforementioned Hyatt Place Phoenix Mesa just about splits the distance between the two ballparks. A couple of other options with solid ratings and within a few miles are Phoenix Marriott Mesa, Baymont Inn & Suites Mesa, and Mesa Mezona Hotel.
