Stay The Night in Gansevoort Meatpacking

By , November 26th, 2015

On a quiet cobbled section of 9th Avenue, surrounded by some of the city’s best restaurants like Bagatelle and Catch and a stone’s throw from the elevated High Line Park, sits the Gansevoort Meatpacking. Opened in 2004 as one of the neighborhood’s first hotels, the luxury property pays testament to Meatpacking’s growth as more than just NYC’s nightlife hub.

The stay experience begins when you enter through the automatic turning doors to enter the expansive lobby. While contemporary depictions of drunk pandas and crown-wearing Mona Lisa’s by Domingo Zapata provide an edgy vibe, plush leather couches surrounding a pool table and backed by a bar provide comfort and space to socialize.

It’s on this floor you’ll find Gansevoort Meatpacking’s The Chester, an indoor-outdoor space with numerous personalities. While outside is a beer garden with German fare and wooden picnic tables underneath dangling vines and Skeeball, the inside features plush couches and a charmingly weathered look with an American bistro menu. To elevate the experience, head to their VIP back room, Arthur, decked out in small Tiffany lamps letting off a soft red glow and brown velvet seats to savor bespoke craft cocktails.

It’s not just the ground floor offering great food and drink, but also the 14th-floor rooftop. Here you’ll find Zerzura, with 360-degree aerial views of NYC highlighting attractions like the Hudson River, the Empire State Building, One World Trade, the Whitney Museum and New Jersey. The venue is Moroccan themed, eminent by dangling lanterns, Moroccan rugs, cultural murals depicting desert scenes, papyrus plants, a Moroccan tiled bar and Mediterranean-inspired dishes. Sip a “Sahara Sunset” — Milagro Tequila, lime, agave syrup and ginger beer — while nibbling grilled shrimp skewers, blistered shishito peppers and fried calamari.

Walk to one side of the roof and you’ll come to the Plunge Rooftop Pool + Lounge, a chilled out enclave that’s a true piece of paradise in the sky. A mix of sun loungers and grey couches with pink pillows provide comfortable seating, while servers come around offering bites and booze. If you’ve forgotten your bathing suit the Gansevoort Meatpacking’s Bikini Concierge — which features a stylist outfitting you in Sans Sucre’s mix and match collection and Marina Dobreva jewelry — comes to your rescue, complete with Champagne and mimosas. While use of the pool is free for guests, on weekdays the property offers a $250 day pass including spa services to non-guests.

On the other side of the bar is the rooftop’s Secret Garden, a sanctuary of bushes, flowers, crawling vines and dangling plants offering a lush imbibing experience and one that’s uber relaxing. As is the Exhale Fitness + Spa. Spa facilities — including two infinity hydro edge pools, a sauna and relaxation areas — are complimentary for guests, although we recommend springing for one of the pampering treatments. A few suggestions: an ultra moisturizing Shea Butter Massage, an Illuminate Facial using the power of honey and algae and rosemary mud, or a Pure Pedicure featuring an avocado and almond scrub. Health-conscious travelers should also take advantage of the gym and its yoga and barre classes ($25 for guests), as well as the workout gear in the onsite boutique.

And let’s not forget the most important part: the rooms. The Gansevoort Meatpacking holds 186 rooms across six categories, each decked out with lifestyle photos taken within the hotel. Not only that, but all rooms feature an Illy espresso machine, 42” flatscreen television, L’Occitane® bath products, robes and slippers, 300-thread count Egyptian cotton linens and a Thumper Boombox that syncs with Bluetooth and USB cords and looks like a vintage suitcase.

Stay The Night!

Guests can also savor some local culture through the mini bar, holding typical items as well as Chelsea Market-sourced snacks like Island Bakery cookies, New York Delhi nuts and Torres chips. If you’re traveling with a furry friend, the Gansevoort Meatpacking is pet friendly, with amenities like local Barking Zoo treats, monogrammed pet mat, a pet bed, food and water bowls, a special toy, and collar with the text “I am staying at Gansevoort Meatpacking NYC.” A Puppy Purse pet carrier is also provided to help guests more easily explore NYC with their pet.

Before heading out for the night — may we suggest the hotel’s Provocateur Café with its whimsical European dollhouse aesthetics, or Provocateur Nightclub, where special effects range from laser lights to smoke — make use of the in-room Glamour Bar. Picture a giant big bulbed Hollywood-style mirror flanked with a straightening iron and beautifying products like Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, Hampton Sun Airbrush Auto Bronzing Mist and Bumble and Bumble Does It All Styling Spray. If at any time you need something, the Gansevoort Meatpacking has their own 24/7 concierge app, Mobile Staff by Alice, developed in partnership with the hotel. The tool can be used by guests both on- and off-site to make real time requests for things like room service and extra towels, receive special poolside service, make reservations for local restaurants, spa and beauty services, and more.
