Your Las Vegas Getaway

Weather Forecast: High 110°F ~ Low 80°F

Well yes, while we know that August in Vegas is a sizzling skillet, but with the overall likelihood that you’ll be floating between the AC-chilled hotels on the Strip and making the most of the city’s fabulous shopping outlets, we’re going to wager that you’ll actually feel plenty cool. Best yet? Hotel prices are at some of their lowest for the year with the average hotel room in Sin City going for $152 this month. Below we share three hotels that promise savings in cold, hard cash…

trivago tip: Watch out for the nights of August 25th and 26th where average hotel prices jump by 58% over the monthly average.

What to do in Las Vegas in August?

Sin City is abuzz year-round and August is no different when it comes to a packed line-up of concerts and live entertainment. We asked Visit Las Vegas for some guiding advice for how to make the most of an August visit. If your budget doesn’t quite allow for tickets to see Britney Spears at Planet Hollywood (before she ends her residency in December), how about one of these two spots on the Strip?

Pool Party MadnessLas Vegas MGM Grand Wet Republic Pool party DJ

Things in Vegas are going to be way hot this August — in its literal and figurative senses. How to address the later? Ca-ba-na. Big name DJs are going to spinning poolside for the crowds at aquatic venues like Wet Republic (at the MGM Grand), Bare Pool Lounge (at the Mirage) and Daylight Beach Club (at Mandalay Bay). See you on the pineapple pool float.

The Park on The Strip

Vegas’ newest entertainment district extends just off the Strip between New York-New York and T-Mobile Arena. Since opening, craft beers from Beerhaus and the Fried Chicken Sandwich at Bruxie have become big draws for The Park. Pop by for Park Party on Tuesdays starting at 5 p.m. with a lineup of live music and $5 wine and beer to pair with.

Your Lake Buena Vista Getaway

What to do in Lake Buena Vista in August?

There is no shortage of attractions in the Lake Buena Vista and Orlando area. We asked Visit Orlando for some help and we learned about perhaps the only “free” Disney park in the world!

trivago tip: Karyn Locke of Sand and Snow recommends buying your souvenirs from the outlet malls in the Orlando area which often have Disney products at deep discounts.

Discover the largest expansion of the Animal Kingdom to date. Pandora – The World of Avatar brings the magic of the Valley of Mo’ara, and the Na’vi River to life. Guests at select Disney World Resorts can make use of Extra Magic Hours to enjoy this otherworldly land (and catch a ride on a banshee) from 10 p.m. to midnight until August 19th.

It may be hard to believe that Lake Buena Vista is actually a wetland ecosystem. The Nature Conservancy’s Disney Wilderness Preserve showcases the wildlife and vegetation native to the Everglades in its untouched state. Spread across 11,500 acres, the Preserve is free to visit and best explored on a hike or on a geocaching adventure.
